Love 4 Haiti

Via followingherfootsteps:

The Love4Haiti movement was originally founded in response to the devastating earthquake which hit the island on Tuesday 12th January 2010 . A group of like minded friends (Camille, Marteen, Chantal and Stephanie) collaborated with the members of the Uprock collective to create a musical and spoken word night of giving.

Some of the Uk’s finest performers and DJ’s (along with a surprise performance from Eric Roberson) all came together and through this event raised over £3000.00 for UK based Haitian charity. The funds raised aided in the re-building of several schools in Haiti and items donated on the night (stationary, toiletries and other essentials) amounted to enough to fill an entire shipping container. A very successful night to say the least! An integral part of the entire Love4Haiti fundraising drive leading up to the night and indeed on the night was the sale of the limited edition Love4Haiti T-shirts (designed by Uprock member Justin MacKenzie). In fact the T-Shirts proved so popular that the organisers of the event were forced to do an unanticipated second print run!

Since then Love4Haiti have supported various fundraising initiatives with the main focus being on assisting young people in Haiti through the arts. Now in 2013 Love4Haiti are really pleased to be once again assisting with the re-building of Haiti through supporting the Camp Acra project.

Camp Acra is currently home to over 32,000 people. In the past month, a dedicated group of young people have just finished building a new school which they are already using to teach art class, hold camp workshops, and provide computer training. Everybody is welcome to these classes and workshops, which are open every day for women, girls, boys and men, young and old. But they need support to purchase a few more computers and some art supplies!

Justin has once again created a fantastically fly line of T-Shirts specifically for the purpose of raising funds to support Haitian re-building initiatives which resonate with the ethos of Love4Haiti. The goal this time around is to raise £500.00 (or more if we can) to support this very worthy project and help them reach their goal of $3,000.

There are TWO main ways to support Camp Acra:

1. Make a donation to the Camp Acra IndieGogo Campaign (coordinated by blogger and activist Sokari Ekine and supported by ARTivist Amina Doherty) – there are just 15 days left!

OR

2. Purchasing one of these super fly Love4Haiti Tees! All proceeds go to supporting the young people in Camp Acra.
