For Africa

Don’t you wonder why? Why I cannot go with you to Nigeria?
Don’t you wonder why I can’t put my head on that chopping board?
Don’t you wonder why I can’t abide your forgetfulness any more?
Don’t you wonder why I can’t with eyes wide shut go abroad?
Don’t you wonder why you can’t remember how you assault my heart?
Don’t you wonder why you can’t remember running away under fire?
Don’t you wonder why you can’t remember saying you’d leave me to it?

These are only some of the reasons

Why I can’t allow my emotions be drag through that mire any more,
Why I can’t become that sacrificial lamb for your every beck & call,
Why I can’t honestly say I love you without my heartstring constricting,
Why I can’t dance with you without wondering, “does she still love me?”
Why I can’t speak my mind for fear of your thunder and lightening,
Why I can’t relax because deep down you do not know how to forgive…

But I give you this

My Love, Africa, is all yours without the obstacle of tears,
My love, Africa, is all yours even though my heart is in bits,
My love, Africa, is yours, “don’t you just wonder why?”
My love, Africa, is given freely, joyously, selflessly, wholly,
My love, Africa, is what brought us together before now,
My love, Africa, is what will bind us together forever more.

With all my heart, with all my heart Africa, that’s why this is for you…
