"The plunder of the Congo is the violent militarized seizure of the everyday, of the ordinary. Women. Men. Children. Forests. Land. Stuff. Even in the story of plunder, which should be their story, they have all been sacrificed to the story of markets, of mineral resources, armed forces, major corporations. They must be restored to the center of their own stories and the story of the Congo."

it is also important we acknowledge that within this system of plunder that is killing people, there are resisters, refuseniks and survivors - children, women and men, farmers, traders extraordinary ordinary people who desire to live.

How and why now? in 2004, EU banned use of lead in solder. Lead is poisonous and Europe wanted it out of homes. Solder is used to "glue" electrical components together. The most common replacement for lead solder is tin solder. cassiterite is one source of tin. Approximately 5% of tin comes congo.

Hence, when protecting europeans from lead poisoning, EU indirectly fueled the crisis in Congo.
