This so called 'white man' is intentionally baiting. He/she is too obvious by far (see Charles Manson et al) and no one gives a rip what this 'type' says, thinks, or believes. That deck of cards is so worn out it won't slide across the table.

We should ask ourselves why we give him/her reason to masturbate to our agreeing there is ANY truth to this individual, whose tactics are clear due this method of over playing race baiting, confusion, infiltration, manipulation, stirring up strife, and the rest of their ideology of tricks, because they're scared some may escape the plantation. There is no proof what color this individual is (though we can be suspect due the obvious intent to appear as a cliche) but we should be smart enough to quickly example that we're onto them and won't play their game no mo!

Poor thing, it seems like the white man believes that oppression in itself is is only when thousands, millions or even one person is murdered.
With this narrow definition of oppression, he has the nerve to call Sokari small minded.
Using his own small minded logic, let me remind this white man that there were many African deaths aboard the slave ships during the Middle passage, therefore by his own definition , slavery indeed falls right under oppression.

Saludos,
Ana

As a white man myself, I have to say that I am very offended by the comment by "The White Man" above. I am also ashamed of the part which my ancestors may have played in slavery by enjoying opportunities here in the United States which racial equality made available to whites only.

Wait, wait, wait...did someone just try to distinguish the slavery and murder of Jews from the forced slavery, murder of African slaves? Wow, interesting. Oppression is oppression - regardless of the color of the victims. When a group of people are systematically subjugated by cultural norms, legal structures and simple daily reality, one cannot try to categorize which is more oppressing than the other.

And to think that the anonymous commentator even took the time to call the blog author "small minded". Wow. It is a shame that people cannot express their opinion without resorting to insults to buttress their views.

Anyway, Sokari, how body? Had never heard of this museum. It will be interesting to visit it. Such things are necessary reminders of the mistakes of our past, but they equally reinforce that we have the opportunity to do much better in our future.

"So what the hell is your problem?" does sound like harassment and/or intimidation and IMO adding a personal attack to an otherwise valuable article serves only to render that contribution invalid in its entirety.

I find it incredibly disparaging to come back to America, and find this tripe still prevelant. Honestly, what more could I expect.

You're one of the small-minded black people that still thinks slavery is oppression. No, my dear, slavery isn't oppression. Millions of jews being killed in gas chambers in oppression. Two-thousand monks in burma being gunned down in Burma is oppression. Thousands of christian leaders being sent to death camps in Russia is oppression. Someone being boiled alive for inventing calculus is oppression.

Slavery is nothing more than an imperfect societal structure. As I seem to recall, the society was informed of the imprefections, and they corrected it by freeing them.

So what the hell is your problem?

Sokari, you pull no punches, and this is how it should be. On American TV we now have commercials where white men black women are paired as couples, as well as black men with white women, and it's hard to believe that less than 40 years ago, people who made or acted in such commercials would have been murdered without a second thought.

No one should be ashamed of this dark chapter in our past: but we should never forget what happened, and how awful we can treat one another, when given the opportunity.
