Good for you for banning abusive and violently hateful comments from your blog. I go on a lot of radical feminist blogs and in order to keep it a safe space for women to discuss many sensitive issues it is NECESSARY to ban hateful and violent comments by men who troll the websites. It is very upsetting for me to read some of these men's comments, and we already, as women of color, or men of color, or even white women, deal with so much hateful messages and images directed against us that we at least deserve some safe spaces online to discuss issues.

I'm a reader of your blog. I think it's necessary to limit the ability of abusive, anonymous people having a place to vent their screed. So I applaud your decision. I would like to see, however, a nickname field, which people could use instead of their name. I think this would encourage participation from people who don't want to leave their name and comments traceable on the Web.

If you go to craigslist.org, they have a nickname feature when you register--which you must do to comment on certain portions of the site. Maybe that will give you some ideas.

Thanks for your blog.

We have to moderate on our blog too to avoid some really vicious hate mail from those who admire 'degrees in violence'.

But I do think, sometimes, that its worth letting some of them through. They sometimes do help to prove the point of what we're campaigning against, if you know what I mean...
