Problem immigrants and poor old expats

I live in Europe where i can get free health care. But how do you feel safe when 2 more boys are killed by a police in Paris and within hours they are forgotten as the media and people start to talk of riots and burning car and the “the problem with these immigrants”.
Meanwhile the mainstream media and the public have for years ignored the Sudanese government and their responsibility for the atrocities and nightmares in Darfur, but all of a sudden because a British schoolteacher is jailed for 15 days everyone is up in arms with Brits flying over to Khartoum by the plane full.
But I dont think its safe to be in Europe any more but then its not safe anywhere if you are different unless you hide the truth and conform.

I have only heard snippits about the story and have heard of the problems that African immigrants have in France. I understand their anger, but riots don’t accomplish anything positive. I grew up in the ruins of a city where riots took place, Detroit. It took decades for the scars of the riot to disappear and the lives of the people were not improved. I hope Afro-French find better ways to protest than violence.

Just like in the UK where Brixton, Oldham and other places that saw riots, the scars live forever. Regardless of the issues, the rule of law or lack of it is one of the reason most Africans became immigrants. I would rather people got together as one voice in order to push through reforms in their new chosen countries.
Institutional racism is more subtle, less visible, and less identifiable than individual acts of racism, but no less destructive to human life and human dignity. The people who manage our institutions may not be racists as individuals, but they may well discriminate as part of simply carrying out their job, often without being aware that their role in an institution is contributing to a discriminatory outcome.
France seemed to have become the worst institutional racist country in the EU due to the frequency and size of these riots (late 2005) which is a failure in governance. This does not justify terrifying and setting fire to your neighbours. It is wrong. It will only create more labels of desperate and dangerous new underclass.

Wherever there are African immigrants in Europe there is always a phrase I keep hearing, “They can’t seem to intergrate with us!” Seems the only to get by there is by toeing the line and becoming a conformist robot.

Please, get the info before posting erroneous article. The two boys were using a toy-motorbike at high speed and crashed against police’s car… Accident happens, it is very sad indeed… But this has nothing to do with the fact you live in Europe, nor that you get free health care and still do not feel safe.
Then, they are not immigrants, they are French !!
I agree with you on only one thing, media should be blame as they are only waiting for chaos.

Afrotom @ My point is yes they are not immigrants so why does the media present these events within an immigration discourse? And yes it does have everything to do with me living in this Europe of free health care where me and my children are still presented as immigrants and immigrants are presented as problems including when we try to access this free health care and are asked to present our documents as if we are criminals!
