let us live in peace

The African LGBTI community has been under attack this week in Cameroon, Nigeria and in Uganda. Direland has an excellent piece on the crisis in all three countries.

August has proven to be a perilous months for gays in Nigeria and Cameroon, where large-scale arrests have taken place, and in Uganda, where gay activists have gone into hiding after government ministers this week called for their arrest.

In Nigeria there were riots in Bauchi state after some of the men arrested were released on bail and faced a barrage of stone throwers from the crowds. The Cameroon story has just been released after nearly a month. The case for the 4 young men in the Cameroon is worrying as only last year 9 men were released after spending a year in prison for charges of homosexuality which were eventually dropped.

Last week SMUG (Sexual Minorities Uganda) launched their campaign “Let Us Live in Peace”. Below are photos from the campaign launch press conference in Kampala.

    I have several questions that i hope that someone can answer for me. I am currently dating a man from Nigeria, that I like alot. He presently resides in Germany. My 1st question is why are so many men fron Nigeria and Cameroon going to Germany and why are they forming relationships with the white women? I am not prejudice, but I think a black man needs a black woman. My second question is, why do Nigerian men have total rights to the children? My third and last question is, if we were to get married are there any certain rules that I have to abide by being an american black woman? I truly appreciate anyone who can answer some of these questions for me. I will patiently await your response.
