i think that the government should grant workers the requested 12%, considering learners that are missing on education, decrease in GDP per capita due to earn as per number of days you work, control of violence and distruction of property; now the government has to hire more police for protection. the government will also gain more taxes in return. it's fair.

Great commentary on a muddled situation. I too think that COSATU is using the workers' legitimate grievances to demonstrate to the ANC that it has a big power base and could shut down the country any time it wanted.Just showing its muscle backing Zuma.
Thanks for the space for intelligent debate.

Thanks folks! I was holding this post and these photos hostages for quite some time!

I just got an email saying the strikers in Durban are returning to work, but I will post something more affirmatively later.

@Morphological Confetti: that is an interesting comment about Blacklooks being like an online course and that gives me ideas (!!!)

@Steve Hayes: I think the gap between the proposed 57% raise and the 6-7.25% raise is one of the most disgusting features of this situation. One could argue that the govt doesnt have the money, but when they are able to give a 57% raise then we know the WILL not the MONEY is the issue
