Decentering Palestinians

The more I watch the news (Al Jazeera / BBC World/ Lebanese TV) the more I ask myself whether a pact has been made between the Zionists and their supporters [who come in all disguises and all nationalities] – to destroy Palestine and Palestinians once and for all – trapped in Gaza, trapped in Nahr el-Bared, trapped by Walls, trapped in lies and myths. Is this the beginning of yet another genocidal process? Remember the invasion of Lebanon – the world media were distracted by Israeli action there, meanwhile the Israeli’s were continuing with some of the worst attacks on Gaza which were hardly reported.

Today I heard straight from the mouth of the Druze leader, Waleed Jumblat that no one can be allowed to fire on the Lebanese army and that they should go in and “clean up the camps”. Sound familiar? But according to Lebanese TV station “Future” the PM, the President, Hariri even Nasrallah are all supporting the Lebanese army’s bombardment of the camps. With one mouth Hariri is saying “Palestinians are our brothers” and with the other he is saying any attack against the Lebanese army cannot be tolerated. Only the PLO qualify their support of the Lebanese army with the condition of protecting the civilians living in the camp.

There are 40,000 residents in Nahr el Bared refugee camp, who have been without water or electricity since sunday and are under indiscriminate attack from the Lebanese army supposedly fighting 200 members of Fatah al Islam. Hizbollah TV is saying this is not the first time this group have appeared and that they must be gotten rid of as they are all foreigners from Yemen, Iraq and elsewhere and are in the country just to make trouble. So what to do? The Lebanese army has to stop now and allow medical teams to enter the camp – you cannot keep killing civilians with collective punishment.

As King Abdullah said yesterday (not someone to say very much) soon there will be no Palestine for anyone to negotiate with – they will all be dead, displaced GONE!

From Decentering Damascus

TV channels are saying that Badawi camp people want to “launch war” on the Lebanese army, these people are CIVILIANS god damn it!!! and they want to help their brothers and sisters in the Nahr el Bared camps who are being subjected for the THIRD day to random bombings causing UNKNOWN deaths and casualties among the civilians. In Nahr al Bared camp living conditions are getting much worse, they cannot bury the dead nor take the wounds to hospitals, not to mention that they are out of water and food for the third day.
I am no news analytic, but i think the bombs in Beirut has one thing to do with Nahr el Bred is that it is a distraction, and to make the Lebanese people feel “less” sorry for the Palestinian civilians, which is exactly what happening. i do not care who the hell are Fath Al Islam, whoever they are they ARE terrorists because they are damaging the Palestinians BEFORE they are damaging the Lebanese. There is no whatsoever excuse for bombing 40, ooo people for the sake of 300 armed ones!!

The camps have existed since 1948 when Israel began driving out the Palestinians, 400,000 in Lebanon alone; since 1969 there has been an agreement that the Lebanese army are not allowed into the camps; Lebanon is full of armed militias from every sect in the country – none of whom have disarmed from the phalangists to Hizbollah; the living conditions in the camps are so awful – dirty, polluted, over crowded, no infrastructure, no work – that it is amazing that the camps have not become a breeding ground for militancy and desperation. Palestinians cannot work in certain jobs they have no nationality and are effectively second class citizens in Lebanon; but despite all of this it is not the Palestinians from the camps who are fighting; Palestinians from other camps in Lebanon have come out to demonstrate, not in support of the Fatah Islam, whoever the hell they are, but against the Lebanese army’s bombardment; these Fatah al Islam are doing a great job in helping the Zionists to close the doors on Palestine. Now there is a group of Hamas women suicide bombers threatening to go and blow themselves up in Israel – so for everyone one of you that blows yourself up the Israelis will come and kill 20,30 , 40 Palestinians until no one is left to kill and the problem is solved for Israel!

I have been searching for information on how this started – one news report from the Lebanese English language newspaper “The Daily Star” states that the Lebanese army stepped in after the Fatah Islam supposedly resisted the authority of the Lebanese army who had come to arrest them for previous terrorist actions. I would like to know because this stinks. The spokesperson for FI says their members are drawn from ex Jordanian, Syrian, Lebanese army soldiers and claim they include some who have fought in Iraq against the US – not a surprise to see their hands in this filthy mess. Everywhere you look you see the same grubby hands. Whether it is Darfur or Iraq or the DRC or Palestine, all of these are connected in one way or the other.

As I write I see some civilians are leaving the camps as there is some lull in the fighting.

thanks for writing this. sometimes i think people really do not understand the urgency of this situation. the comparison to apartheid is helpful, except the state of israel does not only hope to separate arabs and jews, but hopes to completely do away with arabs as a whole and i think this is the crucial point–destruction + genocide are at the center of this project. i wish that the palestinian issue would stop being treated as a simple ‘colonialism’ but as a program of destruction. this would surely confuse those of us who watch zionist jump on the save darfur campaign while supporting similarly genocidal policies under the state of israel.

Thank you for this update. Also for kameelah’s words. Have you ever had the experience of reading about a particular issue and reading and watching, watching and reading, years go by, then one day you read something and everything falls into place?

This has just happened for me.

Destruction + Genocide are at the center of Israel’s current “policies” towards Palestinians.

    Thank you.
