that is so amazing sokari--i'm looking forward to reading about what happens in haiti.

I forgot, too, about the tent cities that are in hawai'i and california--people so poor they can't afford anything else--they are even being kicked out of state parks.

BFP@These are my exact thoughts and I mention this in last nights post "The Right to Remain". I really think we need to think about how to do this. Abahlali have already connected with Shackdwellers in Zimbabwe and Haiti so there is a beginning. I will be going down to Haiti in August to meet with some of the activists working in Cité-Soleil so that will be a link too. Recently some Abahlali members went to Turkey and I know Abahlali would be very interested in making new connections.

the thing i thought about when reading this was that i wonder if/how it would be possible to start connecting all these different movements of displaced peoples. indigenous peoples in the u.s./canada are living in similar conditions in many places, the peoples in mexico and south america--there are more shack dwellers than not. How can the work that all these amazing people are doing begin to be connected????

There are so many similarites with this post and my posts about the Roma here in Greece, it is scary. displaced/forgotten/ignored people don't seem to mean anything to the rest of the world.

All I can say is sorry to all the millions of displaced/forgotten/ignored people. Sorry.
