Good question, Annie (Do all of “us three” feel this way?)

I don't know. But there are two things. One is that the feeling here parted from two real people I know, and as a writer, hoped that everyone else felt that way.

Two, the elephant is there, and the narrator in the poem is merely pointing it out to all, where some may say, "What elephant?"

BTW, the images you use in your poem are quite powerful (eg the undying kitten). The line: "Into the towns of the nation" sings.

"Correlated siblinghood?" Do all of "us three" feel this way, Rethabile? This is me testing the waters in trying to decide whether I want to acknowledge the proverbial elephant which I am gradually realizing is sitting uneasily in the room.
