The switch from peace to a state of war is the fastest transition of all. The few minutes leading up to 9.20am on Tuesday were a world away from the minutes that followed it. There had been no warning. None of the usual signs that war was about to break out had been observed

Peaceful Rallies to Protest Ongoing attacks on LEBANON Please check your local city as additional rallies are taking place.

In solidarity!

Israel has become a merchant of death and destruction, and I strongly condemn it’s reign of terror against it’s neighbors.

Folks must start speaking out now.
Condemn these terrorist atrocities perpetrated by Israel in the name of security.

Condemn America’s blind support of terrorist Israel in the name of religion -

It’d be a little easier for me to stand there with you if Hezbollah weren’t constantly coddled as “freedom fighters” and didn’t kidnap soliders. Though I will say bombing Beirut is crazily out of synch with the situation. I imagine that my refusal to gesture histrionically against the “Zionist menace” will paint a bullseye on my back. Fine. Better a bullseye than a self-adjusted crown of thorns.

The support for the people of Lebanon and Palestine should not be confused with support for acts of terror – This is not an either/or good/evil situation. There HAS to be another way and our leaders need to have the courage to guide us through that way. Civil Society too needs to stand up and fight for justice – otherwise we are left only with nightmares!

Certainly the complete destruction of another nation state (its airport, ports, roads, electritity supply, fuel depots, houses, commerce, livihoods AND hundreds of innocent lives) is not that way.

Freedom Fighters or Straight-Up Occupiers!!

Brace yourself for tons of comments about Israel innocently fighting for its “right to exist” and stamping out terror but never reflecting on just how much it is viewed as an apartheid-driven, oppressive occupying landholder.

Until Israel breaks that broken record about innocently existing peacefully and not unleashing repression and apartheid-living conditions on its neighbors, the senseless killing will continue. THAT’s why the world stands in solidarity of Palestine and Lebanon!!

You can’t kick people and not expect them to holler and fight back!

For some insight into the blind, misinformed allegiance of Americans (who don’t have a clue about the history of Israel), please read: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/07/19/AR2006071901775.html

i cannot believe what is happening to my country. even after all these days it seems impossible. it reminds me of 1975 when i was in england for the summer school holidays with my mother and my father phoned from beirut to say we shouldnt go back ´´for the moment ´´. i was 12 years old. i never went back to live there permanently and the war continued for years and years and years. finally it ended and the people and the country began to rebuild itself . things were getting so much better, normality returning and then nine days ago israel went mad and started bombing the country.lebanon and the lebanese not only hizbullah as they claim. they started with the airport the runways and the aircraft fuel deposits. we knew that was a bad sign. then the ports the electricity power station the roads the motorways the bridges, they paralized the country within days cutting it off from from the rest of the world, destroynig and destroying as much as possible, dropping letters as they bombed the south telling everone to leave so people started running to beirut. we were able to speak to my friends and family in beirut the first few days but not anymore. those who were able escaped fleed for their lives to the mountains.
my immediate family was gathered in paris to celebrate my mothers 80th birthday. our original plan had been to have a big party in beirut but as one of my sisters who lives in paris couldnt get time off work we all went to paris instead. my mother left beirut 2 days before the israelis started attacking.
i am lebanese, was brought up as a catholic, and now have no religious affiliation. But George Bush said i have to choose, if i am not with him i am against him. israel is doing what it is doing with the blessing of george bush and toni blair. they are destroying my country and murdering my people. they ´´encouraged´´ the syrian army to leave which left lebanon practically defenseless. Extremists maintain there is no other way than theirs. if goerge bush forces me to choose , i will support hizbullah, because they are the only ones fighting for my country , defending my country. if it wasnt for them israel would still be occupying the south of lebanon today. but i say if i have to choose. but many around the world know that this forced choice between extremes is false. there are alternatives . there are many many people who do not want any type of fundamentalism or terrorism, wether state sponsored or personal, whether christian jewish or muslim. there are people all over the world who know that there is another way. and we will continue to speak out and fight for justice and human rights.
why does lebanon have to be sacrificed again? what have ordinary lebanese people done to deserve this?

Article 2

In the present Convention, genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such:

(a) Killing members of the group;

(b) Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;

(c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;

(d) Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group;

(e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.

Which of these is Israel and the US NOT guilty of in the Middle East?

Israel continues to drive itself into isolation. How could Israel speak of peace when it continues to usurp land in the West Bank and build an apartheid wall? A certain fanatical fraction of Israeli politics isn’t interested in the creation of a Palestinian state. Extremism exists not just with Hamas and Hezbollah but also with the State of Israel and its powerful and deadly right wing parties.

For there to be peace in the Middle East, an honest broker is needed (definitely not the United States) —one who isn’t influenced by Zionist or Islamic extremists. What Israel is doing right now in Lebanon is disgraceful, shameful and absolutely unacceptable and we should not be afraid to speak out. Israel would never have peace if it hopes to achieve it by military means.

I really think before people pick sides, we need to understand the history of Hezbollah…the government of Lebanon has chosen to support and even has amongst them members of this terrorist cell.Go and read up on history before you take a stand.. I believ Isreal should do all it can in order to protect its citizens..this has nothing to do with religion but a lot to do with justice. You have no business kidnapping Israeli soldiers… you have no business going into their country to cause havoc. Now that Israel has chosen to react you want to scream? oh please be quiet! I could careless if you all choose to come back at me but please learn your history first before you come across as being ignorant!

To all those who support the people of Lebanon. We want the world to know that Lebanon has been and is still being destroyed by our enemies the Israelis. I only want your support and protest to make the world see that what Bush (with affiliation with Israel) and Blair are conducting are total atrocities in our country; the country known for peace and love is being destroyed. They don’t want to see our economy prospering.

P.S. All these foreign embassies they made here in Cyprus for the safe transfer of the citizens trapped in Lebanon should ask the Cypriot government to maintain them because they will be needed for the mass exodus of Israelis around the world.I hope and pray each day that this will occur as soon as possible because what they did and are still doing is utterely inhumane and vicious
