Suzanne Ouedraogo is an artist from Burkina Faso who has used her art as a powerful message against the practice of female circumcision in Burkina Faso - Thanks to Joe Pollitt for this.

Are being destroyed by the day
Rendered useless
By our overseeing Lords and Ladies
Of ancestral descent.

The picture speaks volumes. It sends a compelling and distressing message. It sends a message that all ears should hear and act on.

FGM legislation in Cameroon
Sembene Ousmane’s film Moolaade is an extraordinary beautiful film about female circumcision. It is set in a small village in Burkina Faso. Sembene confronts the subject with grace and dignity presenting women as agents of their own lives and transformation. The only victim here is female circumcision and it is shown no mercy.
