And who makes this list? Brad Pitt. Is it bad that I snorted when I saw this on the cover of a magazine? Newsweek en plus? Brad Pitt? Ladies and gentlemen we have a winner for the man who embodies the American dream: he’s a Hollywood star, has the body of a god and did something “charitable” in Africa! I am truly amazed. Mr. Pitt and Ms. Jolie put Namibia on the map, and for that they fulfill the criteria of “heroic, brave and generous.”
He lured the paparazzi to Africa, where people really needed the attention.
Yes, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie went to have their baby in “Africa” because they wanted to lure the paparazzi to the AIDS orphanages. I’m still trying to stop laughing by the way, so pardon me if this post starts to become too stream of conciousness after a while. According to Mr. Pitt himself with regards to all the attention he received, “It’s the first time I’ve actually felt like we have some degree of control over it.” And he says this from his home in Malibu, not in Namibia. But you see, this is not even the icing on the cake. Brad Pitt is now studying trade issues and “diving into why much of Africa is so impoverished and how it can be turned around.” Brad Pitt goes from Achilles to economist.
The Brangelinas have added a Namibian-born child to their menagerie (and I use the word on purpose) which currently includes a child adopted from Cambodia and another from Ethiopia. Yes, these are the people who make America great. But you really have to wonder, I mean on the surface all these sound laudable do they not? But really what are Mr. Pitt’s intentions? But more importantly, what happened to all the other people who could have been on that list? Where are the true philanthropists and the researchers and the single mothers making a change in at least one person’s life? I thought the point of an article of this sort was to bring to the fore all those who have remained in the background but have truly embodied courage and generosity.
Well, if Brad Pitt leads the list of people who make America great, then I do believe I have found yet another reason why I am very glad I am not American!
