In our culture…..

12 of 18 of Kenya’s women MPs walked out of parliament during the debate of the Sexual Offences Bill which was presented yesterday. The women were responding to a statement by Paddy Ahenda who said

“If the bill is adopted the way it is, it will prevent men from courting women and this will be a serious impediment to the young who would want to marry,” said Mr Ahenda.

“In our culture, when women say ‘No’, they mean ‘Yes’ unless it’s a prostitute.”

No wonder rape has reached epidemic proportions if this is the way men think! And what was wrong with the remaining 6 women MPs and the other men - does this mean they agree with Mr Ahenda? This is so outrageous. The same song is sung everyday ” in our culture…we dont do this we dont do that but what we do do is condone abuse and take away people’s human rights”. To hell with this so called culture we have, we need to get rid of it because it is killing us and destroying our lives.
