Narcissa

Spring has arrived in Granada this week. We have had a whole 6 days of continuous sunshine which the locals have taken as a sign that winter is finally over. Personally I am not convinced but hey I am not a Granadinos so what would I know. Tables and chairs are out on the terraces and my local plaza opened their cafe today so its breakfast at 10.30 a la fuera from now till October. If I can get a wifi connection I may even start blogging from there while its still cool – beats the darkness and cold of my apartment which is at least 5c colder than outside.

I had lunch with Lance Tooks and Kevin Taylor, two African American graphic novelists here in Granada
for the "Salon del Comic, Granada".

Lance has lived in Madrid for the past 9 years but is hoping to move to
Granada fairly soon. Kevin is a New Yorker and hopes to move to
Granada for a more restful existence in September for 6 months of the
year. I look forward to meeting both of them again soon and thank you
so much Lance for the signed copy of Narcissa. Check Lance’s blog for some of his brilliant artwork. Kevin is yet to start blogging but I hope he has now been persuaded by myself and Lance who is also a newbie.

Had dinner last evening with AM, a beautiful Argentinian woman who has been in Spain about 4 months. Her daughter has been here about 5 years and I guess helped bring her mother over. She explained the racism in Argentina directed at the indigenous and Black people and said it was impossible to get a decent education or job. I hope Spain works out better for her but at least she is economically more secure and despite the racism here I believe life is a lot easier on that level. She used to be part of an evangelical church – I guess as some sort of refuge from her domestic space and other oppressions, until and I quote "I realised that God did not create man, man created God" – I liked that. She is now a Trotskyite so quite a switch there!

Saw this on the street last weekend: – Says "i hate everything" I wonder if s/he is OK!
