JP's comment goes to underline the dilemna of the African who has assimilated Western cultures to the extent of claiming them subconsciously! Religious colonialisation is the only aspect of Western occupation of our collective pysche still viewed by majority of africans as expedient. What do you think of human sacrifice, cannibalism, etc etc?

I admit to unequal values, to the African society's insensitivity to the problems associated with woman sexuality. But the problem of homosexuality comes in a different strain.

Though I do not personally approve of homosexuality, condemned in the bible as unnatural, but the problem is real, is human and cannot be solved by open condemnation of or tirades against that "aberration"
What are the underlying causes of homosexuality, can the problem be cured by appropriate therapy and are the "sufferers" willng to submit to such therapy? The situation calls for absolute understanding.

I'm against homosexuality as a Christian though at heart I am aliberal meaning that personally, i have no problem communicating with gays though I believe they are morally wrong. At the same time, I don't condone violence against other groups based on ethnicity , racial or sexual divide and thus in my heart I grieve for the African woman who was killed. No man or woman has the right to kill another in the name of tradition. Africa is a continent too enrooted in its traditions even in the 21st century. It seems to me that the only way we can move foward is by relegating some of these traditions to the background to meet the challenges of today and grappling the main funamental isues of modernisation so we can come out of the dark once and for all.

Just for clarity, I meant that I thought my own opinion was oversimplified, not that yours was. I think your blog is generally well-thought out and fairly complex in its analysis, actually.

Excellent analysis- I most certainly agree with everything you said. It is an outrage that that Sierra Leonean lady was raped and brutalized like that and these FigureHeads are saying nothing. And I also agree that men are the ones that are in the forefront of the anti-homosexuality movement because they fear its challenge to their concept of "masculinity". Funny, I actually just wrote a paper about this.
Keep up with the posting!

I completely agree with you, it is oversimplified but this is a blog and i am trying to make it brief but still get my point across. why are you more amazed that there are bigoted christians in africa? as to why they havent rejected christianity - i completely agree with you - people have been brainwashed. As Bob Marley said "free yourself from mental slavery" well these guys have a long way to go on that one. It is no coincidence that the largest growth in any of the christian churches is in Africa - why because they feed off the poverty of peoples lives, unpoliticise the population and turn people into zombies therefore making them incapable of challening the status quo.
