“Peace” in Niger Delta?

Peace deal in Nigerian Oil Town

"The agreement between the Itsekiri and Ijaw ethnic groups is supposed to end seven years of warring, which has badly disrupted oil production in the area".

Behind this so called "peace deal" between the Ijaw and Itsekiri people of the Niger Delta is the Nigerian Army.  The Niger Delta has been occupied by military forces of the Nigerian Government for the past 13 years during which time thousands have been killed by army personnel, women raped and beaten, properties and livelihood destroyed.   The fighting between the youth of the different ethnic nationalities in the region is more often than not due to a systematic policy of divide and rule by successive Nigerian Governments including the present.  In fact more people have been killed by army and para-military forces in the Niger Delta in the regime of President Obasanjo than in any other regime over the past 13 years including that of the brutal dictator Sani Abacha.
